Colombo: A delegation from the Russian Federation, led by Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, arrived in Sri Lanka this morning for a three-day official visit. The seven-member delegation was welcomed at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by Minister of Science and Technology Krishantha Abeysena, Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Levan Dzhagaryan, Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media Anil Jasinghe, and Director of International Health Anil Samaranayake. Following their arrival, a brief discussion was held with the visiting delegation.
According to News.LK, during the visit, Minister Murashko and his team are scheduled to hold a special meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa. The focus of the meeting will be to strengthen cooperation and ties in the health sector between Russia and Sri Lanka. Additionally, the delegation is expected to meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath for further discussions.
The delegation will also visit the Colombo National Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Colombo on May 4. Plans are underway to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the health ministries of the two countries. Key areas of cooperation expected to be discussed during the visit include pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, training and advanced training of medical specialists, academic collaboration such as exchange programs and joint courses, Ayurveda, digitalization, and health tourism.
Minister Mikhail Murashko and his delegation are scheduled to conclude their visit and depart Sri Lanka on May 5.
