Kathmandu: The Nepali national volleyball team achieved a significant victory by defeating Kyrgyzstan in the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Women’s Volleyball Championship, currently underway in Kathmandu.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the match took place on Saturday at the covered hall of the National Sports Council in Tripureshwor, where Nepal secured a 3-0 win against Kyrgyzstan. This victory marks Nepal’s first win in the tournament, enhancing their chances of advancing to the semifinals. Previously, Nepal faced a defeat against India on Friday.
In the Saturday match, Nepali player Sumitra Regmi was honored as the ‘player of the match’. With this win, Nepal has accumulated four points from the two matches played and is currently positioned second in the standings, while Kyrgyzstan has garnered three points.
Nepal is set to face the Maldives on Sunday in the final game of Group A. The Championship features participation from teams representing Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, the Maldives, and Kazakhstan.
