Colombo: H.E. Md. Golam Sarwar, Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), paid a farewell courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at Temple Trees. The meeting marked the conclusion of his term and highlighted ongoing regional collaborative efforts.

According to News.LK, the Prime Minister welcomed the Secretary-General and acknowledged his contributions to advancing SAARC’s objectives. Discussion during the meeting centered around the upcoming Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, set for June 23, 2026, in Colombo. The Prime Minister underscored the necessity of regional collaboration to protect children’s rights and welfare across South Asia.

The Secretary-General provided an update on the SAARC Secretariat’s activities and regional initiatives, highlighting efforts to boost food security and child nutrition through member state cooperation. The dialogue also covered enhancing engagement between SAARC and other regional entities to improve connectivity and practice sharing.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to SAARC, pledging continued support for initiatives fostering regional peace and development. The meeting included Mr. Waruna Wilpatha from the SAARC Secretariat, Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, Ms. Sagarika Bogahawatta, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism.
