Dhaka: Mohammad Zahir Hussain, the executive director of Bangladesh Bank and the sole representative of the Board of Directors of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, highlighted the significant role of depositors in the bank’s ownership. He assured the public that the management would adhere to professional standards to serve the general populace effectively.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Hussain made these statements as the chief guest at a clients’ get-together hosted by the bank at its Islami Bank Tower Corporate Branch. He affirmed the enduring presence of Islami Bank in Bangladesh, stating, “As long as Bangladesh exists, Insha’Allah, Islami Bank will also survive with glory.” He emphasized that the bank’s focus remains on the general people rather than any specific individual, group, or community.
He elaborated on the bank’s financial structure, noting that customer deposits amount to nearly Tk 1.75 lakh crore, while the share capital is Tk 6,500 crore. This, he pointed out, makes the share ratio a negligible fraction of the total deposit volume. Hussain reassured customers that complete trust and authority have been conferred upon the bank’s management team, which comprises professionals with 30 to 35 years of experience.
Further, he clarified that the board’s role is limited to policy-making, with professionals tasked with managing operations. He urged depositors to continue supporting the bank by increasing its deposits, expressing confidence that the bank will regain its former glory and achieve new milestones shortly.
The gathering was presided over by Executive Vice President and Head of the Corporate Branch Mohammad Kutub Uddin, and Senior Vice President Abdul Latif gave the welcome address. Acting Managing Director Md Altaf Hossain and Executive Vice President Mahmud Hossain Khan also addressed the event as special guests. The press release noted that several representatives spoke on behalf of the clients.
