Dhaka: The State Dialogue Forum (SDF) on Sunday filed a complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), accusing 28 prominent figures from Bangladesh’s cultural and media sectors of alleged involvement in crimes committed during the July 2024 mass uprising. Al Noor Mohammad Ayas, central member secretary of the SDF, submitted the complaint to ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam. Present during the submission were SDF Central Chief Organiser Muhammad Shah Alam Badsha, Central Organiser Mahasin, and Abu Bakar Siddique (Tuhin Farazi) and Tamim Hasan, who were injured during the July movement.

According to United News of Bangladesh, those named in the complaint include actors Ferdous Ahmed, Riaz Ahmed, and Aruna Biswas, along with several other notable figures from the entertainment and journalism sectors. The allegations encompass crimes against humanity, including incitement to genocide, aiding and abetting, instigation, and other related offences during the uprising.

The organisation emphasized the necessity for an impartial, transparent, and lawful investigation by the ICT into these serious allegations. The complaint aims to ensure accountability and justice for the alleged actions during the July Uprising.

Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam confirmed receipt of the written complaint, stating, “I have received the written complaint, but I have not yet examined its contents. The complaint will be forwarded to the investigation agency, which will look into the matter.” The ICT is expected to proceed with a detailed investigation to ascertain the validity of the allegations made by the SDF.
