Dhaka: State Minister for Land, and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin on Monday highlighted the unprecedented nature of securing a government job in Bangladesh through a transparent recruitment process for only Tk 125, without the need for lobbying or bribery.
According to United News of Bangladesh, these remarks were made during the inauguration of an orientation program for newly recruited Peshkars (court clerks) at the central seminar hall of the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys (DLRS) in the Bhumi Bhaban in Tejgaon. The event was attended by Land Minister Md Mizanur Rahman Minu as the chief guest, with DLRS Director General Md Abul Hasanath Humayun Kabir presiding over the ceremony.
Addressing the new recruits, Mir Helal commended them for obtaining their positions without any recommendations or undue influence, highlighting that they only paid Tk 125 in application fees. He expressed that their experiences of the recruitment process were inspiring and noted that corruption and irregularities had marred the country over the past two decades. The state minister emphasized the importance of integrity, urging the recruits to perform their duties honestly and avoid corruption.
Mir Helal also stressed the importance of public service, quoting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who stated that citizens visiting government offices are the “true owners of the country.” He urged the officials to uphold the principle of “Bangladesh First” by ensuring equitable services for all, particularly marginalized communities, and fostering a self-reliant nation.
In his speech, Land Minister Minu lauded the transparency and merit-based nature of the recruitment process. He reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing social inequality, enhancing the welfare of underprivileged people, and fostering a corruption-free working environment.
The event was attended by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Land ASM Saleh Ahmed, Chairman of the Land Appeal Board Md Abdullah Al Baki, Chairman of the Land Reform Board AJM Salahuddin Nagri, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Land and the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys.
