Rangpur: A student of Rangpur Polytechnic Institute was found hanging in a dormitory in the East Shalbon area of Rangpur city on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Mimtaz Khatun, 21, a seventh-semester student of the institute and daughter of Mohammad Ali of Dhubni village in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Nazmul Quader stated that Mimtaz used to live alone in a room of the dormitory. Her fellow students informed the police when there was no response from her until Sunday noon.

Police subsequently went to the dormitory and discovered her hanging from the ceiling of the room. The body was sent to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A two-page note was also recovered from the room.

The Officer-in-Charge mentioned that the actual cause of her death will be known after receiving the autopsy report.
