Deadline Extended for Return of Firearms and Ammunition to Sri Lanka Navy Camp.

COLOMBO: The Ministry of Defence has announced an extension for the deadline to return firearms and ammunition provided to civilians for personal protection. Originally set for November 7, 2024, the deadline has now been extended to November 21, 2024. This extension aims to accommodate requests from various parties, including licensees who are currently abroad and those who have not received timely notifications.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the decision to extend the deadline was made in response to the challenges faced in notifying all licensees through formal letters. The Ministry has assured that all licensees will be officially informed about this extension in writing. The return process requires licensees to submit their firearms and ammunition to the Commercial Explosive Firearms and Ammunition Procurement Unit (CEFAP) located at the Sri Lanka Navy camp in Welisara.
