Defence Secretary Reviews Maintenance and Phase II Progress of Pettah Central Bus Stand


Colombo: Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) presided over a special meeting at the Ministry of Defence premises today to discuss the long-term maintenance and serviceability of the Pettah Central Bus Stand. The meeting focused on implementing sustainable strategies to ensure the facility remains a well-managed and efficient hub for the commuting public.



According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the Defence Secretary stressed the importance of maintaining the existing infrastructure and modern facilities of the renovated bus stand to ensure long-term serviceability and convenience for the commuting public. Attention was also focused on the digital transformation initiatives planned for the transport hub, including the installation of advanced digital information boards and integrated communication systems aimed at providing real-time transit information for commuters.



The Defence Secretary further reviewed the progress of the second phase of the development project and directed the relevant authorities to ensure its timely completion while maintaining expected quality standards. The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Air Force, the Director General Construction Engineering of the SLAF, senior SLAF officers, and representatives from the Sri Lanka Transport Board, the Ministry of Digital Economy, and other stakeholder institutions.
