Colombo: Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) chaired a series of Public Day programmes held in Galle, Matara, and Tangalle over the weekend, providing members of the public, serving military personnel, veterans, and their families with an opportunity to present their concerns and seek assistance in resolving matters related to their welfare.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, two Public Day programmes were conducted on 15 August at the respective Town Halls in Galle and Matara, while another programme was held at the Tangalle Town Hall on 16 August. During these events, the Deputy Minister listened to a variety of issues and requests from the public and the defence community. He instructed relevant officials to examine these matters and take appropriate action to provide timely solutions wherever possible.

The Deputy Minister also highlighted the importance of ensuring that public grievances, particularly those concerning the welfare of serving personnel, veterans, and their families, receive due attention and are resolved efficiently. The emphasis was on addressing these concerns swiftly to maintain the welfare of all involved.

The programmes saw the participation of Minister Hon. (Mrs) Sarojini Paulraj, Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage, along with Members of Parliament L.M. Abeywickrama and Nihal Galappaththi, who joined in the efforts to address the issues raised by the public.
