Discussion between the President and All Stakeholders in the Export Industry Yields Tariff Reduction


Colombo: President Anura Kumara Disanayake announced that recent negotiations with the United States have resulted in a reduction of the previously imposed reciprocal tariff rate from 44% to 30%. He stressed that ongoing dialogue aims to secure additional concessions.

According to News.LK, the President highlighted the government’s objective to implement changes that will benefit the country’s economy, businesses, and citizens’ well-being. The remarks were made during a discussion at the Presidential Secretariat with all stakeholders in the export sector. The meeting focused on the progress of discussions related to the new reciprocal tariff policy the United States is expected to implement, as well as the economic challenges Sri Lanka may face.

The discussion underscored the importance of identifying new market opportunities and collaboration between the public and private sectors. Diversification of exports was recognized as a key strategy to navigate current challenges.

The meeting was attended by promi
nent figures including Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof, Central Bank Governor Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe, and other key representatives from the export sector.
