Dhaka: Fresh campus violence has erupted as activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir clashed at several educational institutions in the capital on Tuesday, leaving dozens injured. Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), reported that around 20 individuals, injured in clashes at Jagannath University (JnU), Dhaka College, and Government Madrasah-e-Alia (commonly known as Dhaka Alia Madrasah), were brought to the hospital for treatment.
According to United News of Bangladesh, among the injured were the principal of Dhaka Alia Madrasah, a journalist, and activists from both JCD and Shibir. Several injured individuals left the hospital after receiving first aid, while others, including the principal and the journalist, continued to receive treatment.
Identified individuals injured from Jagannath University include Dhruvo, 22, Prova, 23, Towhid, 25, Towhidul Islam, 25, and Md Nasir, 21. Meanwhile, those injured from Alia Madrasah comprised Maruf, 27, Sanaullah, 25, Obaidur, 27, Rabbi, 27, madrasah unit JCD General Secretary Rubel Hossain Momin, 30, Kalu, 45, Principal Mohammad Obaidul Hoque, 52, Yusuf Molla, 19, Sajid, 28, Asif, 43, Samakal Multimedia reporter Nazmul, 26, and Abu Salek, 30, among others.
Journalist Nazmul stated he was injured while attempting to gather information at Alia Madrasah. He was later rescued and taken to the emergency department of the DMCH. Meanwhile, Nesaruddin Rabbi, one of the injured, recounted that he and his friends were chatting in front of the education board when they were suddenly attacked. He speculated that the attackers were Shibir activists.
Towhidul Islam, a student of Islamic Studies at Dhaka College and an alleged Shibir activist, claimed that he was attacked by JCD activists. His friends later rescued him and brought him to the DMCH. Two other students, Prova and Dhruvo, also received initial treatment at the hospital.
In the evening, Dhaka South Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal Member Secretary Rabiul Islam Nayan visited the injured at the DMCH.
