Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to implementing every provision of the July Charter, a document he described as being intertwined with the blood of martyrs from the July mass uprising. Speaking at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) at the Jatiya Press Club, Swapon highlighted the government’s determination to honor the charter’s objectives.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Swapon reiterated the government’s stance that the goals of the July Charter will be achieved through constitutional means, emphasizing the role of the people’s elected Parliament. He underscored the importance of strengthening democratic culture, stating that it requires the collective efforts of all political parties involved in the movement and struggle.

Swapon noted that the sacrifices of the July martyrs would only be honored if political forces genuinely understand and uphold the ideals for which the martyrs sacrificed their lives. He acknowledged the contributions of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who attended the program as the chief guest, and referred to Fakhrul’s perseverance as a reflection of guidance from former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The minister outlined the government’s responsibilities, which include governing the country, activating Parliament, strengthening the judiciary, safeguarding Bangladesh’s sovereignty, enhancing the country’s international standing, and creating employment opportunities for educated unemployed citizens. He stressed that these efforts are crucial for ensuring good governance and honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs.

Swapon assured that the government would continue to unite all democratic forces but warned against any political forces that might cross boundaries through misinformation or indecency. He emphasized that the government would fulfill its responsibility to establish good governance if necessary.
