Thakurgaon: A tea shop owner and another individual lost their lives, while two others sustained injuries following a lightning strike in Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the victims have been identified as 46-year-old Shanti Rani, a tea shop owner from Kusharigaon village, and 65-year-old Suiram Roy from Rajor village in the neighboring Ranishankail upazila. The injured individuals are Salon Chandra, aged 48, and Tepra Roy, aged 60.

Local residents reported that the incident occurred while several people were gathered at Shanti Rani’s tea shop in Kusharigaon village under Bhomradah Union. The thunderstorm hit around noon, and during the heavy rain, a lightning strike struck the area, leaving four people critically injured.

The injured were rushed by locals to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, where medical personnel pronounced Shanti Rani and Suiram Roy dead on arrival. Due to the severity of their injuries, the two surviving victims were later transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for more advanced medical care.

Iqbal Hossain Pramanik, the Officer-in-Charge of Pirganj Police Station, confirmed that an unnatural death (UD) case has been registered in relation to the incident.
