Dhaka: The price of green chillies is anticipated to reach a more manageable level within the next two to five days, as the government has decided to permit the import of green chillies starting tomorrow, announced Agriculture Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid on Sunday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the government has authorized the import of green chillies and has decided to lower the current import tax in an effort to stabilize the prices. This announcement was made to reporters during a visit to the Shantinagar Kitchen Market in the capital. Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir and State Minister for Food Md Abdul Bari were also present to assess the supply, prices, and overall market situation of essential commodities.

During the visit, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam was in attendance. The ministers engaged with traders and consumers to gather information on the supply and prices of daily essentials. After the inspection, the agriculture minister emphasized the government’s swift actions to stabilize the market by facilitating green chilli imports and reducing the import tax.

“Import activities will begin from tomorrow, and we expect prices to come down to a reasonable level within two to five days,” Minister Rashid stated. Commerce Minister Muktadir assured that the government would implement all necessary measures to maintain affordable market conditions for consumers.

He also urged journalists to deliver objective reports based on their observations, noting that accurate reporting could help raise public awareness, reduce misinformation, and discourage artificial shortages and price manipulation. Earlier in the day, the commerce and agriculture ministers, along with the state minister for food, attended a meeting at the Commerce Ministry to evaluate the overall market situation of essential food and agricultural commodities and to plan the necessary actions.
