Dhaka: A case has been filed against a clinic director for allegedly raping a schoolgirl in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat. The victim’s mother lodged the complaint with Kaliganj Police Station on Friday morning, accusing Yusuf Ali, 45, the son of the late Ashmat Ali from the Kanchanshwar Kana Bazar area in Tushbhandar union.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Yusuf Ali is the director of Rangpur New Rupsi Bangla Clinic. The case statement and local residents revealed that Yusuf had become acquainted with the family of a garment worker after providing medical treatment to them at his clinic. The garment worker resides in Dhaka for employment, while his wife and children remain at their home in the area.

On Thursday, the girl’s mother and aunt were at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital with another family child who had fallen ill, leaving the schoolgirl alone at home. Police reported that Yusuf, aware of the girl’s solitary state, visited the house around noon under the guise of needing her mother’s phone number.

Upon entering, he allegedly locked the main gate and room door, restrained the girl, and raped her. When she attempted to raise an alarm, Yusuf reportedly assaulted her and threatened her life. The girl was later discovered injured and informed her mother about the incident over the phone when her condition deteriorated.

She was first taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex and later admitted to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for further treatment. The girl’s mother, who filed the case, has demanded justice for her daughter and punishment for the accused. She also expressed her family’s financial struggles, stating an inability to afford some of her daughter’s medical tests and medications.

Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Police Station, Abu Siddique, confirmed that the complaint has been registered as a regular case, and police are actively conducting operations to apprehend the suspect.
