Beruwala: The Sri Lanka Navy has seized a consignment of suspected cocaine during a special operation conducted in the western seas off Beruwala, leading to the arrest of six suspects.
According to News.LK, the suspects were apprehended along with a local multi-day fishing vessel that was transporting ten sacks believed to contain narcotics.
Rear Admiral Jagath Kumara, Commander of the Western Naval Command, who inspected the haul, stated that the Navy continues to carry out well coordinated operations across Sri Lanka’s maritime zones. These efforts are being strengthened under the government’s Ratam Ekata national programme to combat drug trafficking.
He further revealed that within the past three months, the Navy has seized seven vessels and narcotics worth approximately Rs. 20 billion.
The suspects along with the seized drugs have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
