PM Unveils Development Projects at Sholakia Eidgah


Kishoreganj: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday unveiled plaques of various government development initiatives at the historic Sholakia Eidgah, where he also announced a Tk 17 crore project to improve facilities at the centuries-old Eid prayer ground.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister highlighted that lakhs of people gather at the Sholakia Eidgah to offer Eid prayers, prompting the government to initiate development efforts to enhance the venue’s suitability for devotees. He revealed that Tk 6 crore has already been allocated to the district administration, and the development work is set to commence shortly. Rahman emphasized the government’s commitment to developing and beautifying the field to ensure a comfortable prayer experience for devotees.



In addition to the development announcements, the Prime Minister participated in a tree-planting program organized by the Kishoreganj district unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. He personally planted a sapling, underscoring the significance of environmental conservation and the promotion of greenery. Tarique Rahman expressed the government’s intention to plant a substantial number of neem trees on the Eidgah premises, drawing inspiration from the Arafat Maidan, to provide shade and foster a healthier environment for worshippers and visitors.



The Prime Minister also encouraged local residents to engage in efforts to safeguard the environment of the Eidgah and its surrounding areas. Following the event, he departed Kishoreganj for Dhaka by road, as informed by his Deputy Press Secretary Md Sujauddhoula.



Tarique Rahman’s appearance at the historic Sholakia Eidgah attracted significant enthusiasm among local residents, with individuals from various backgrounds gathering to witness the occasion and listen to his remarks.
