Prime Minister Amarasuriya Highlights Government Efforts to Elevate Healthcare Sector


Colombo: The Government is taking actions to improve the healthcare facilities and professional standards, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized during a recent ceremony at Temple Trees, where 3,147 nurses received their official appointments. The Prime Minister underscored the vital role nurses and midwives play in delivering compassionate care to the public.

According to News.LK, Dr. Amarasuriya extended her best wishes to the newly appointed nurses, recognizing their entry into a significant and respected profession. She highlighted that nursing is more than a job; it is a humanitarian service that provides safety and care during vulnerable times. The Prime Minister acknowledged the dedication required in nursing, which often involves personal sacrifices impacting family and social relationships.

Dr. Amarasuriya reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the policy of ‘A Prosperous Country, a Beautiful Life’, which aims to enhance healthcare facilities and provide training opportunities to prof
essionals. She noted the high demand for nurses both locally and internationally and stressed the importance of appropriate salaries, promotions, and a positive working environment for healthcare workers.

Addressing the event, Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, highlighted that this mass recruitment is the largest group to enter public service since the new government took office. He emphasized the collective effort required from the public service to achieve national progress and revival, urging a commitment to efficiency, productivity, and compassion.

The event was attended by Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe, along with Additional Secretaries, officials, and staff of the Ministry of Health.
