Sea Areas off Sri Lanka Braced for Rough Conditions with High Winds and Showers


Colombo: Showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota, via Colombo and Galle. Additional showers or thundershowers may occur at a few other sea areas surrounding the island.



According to News.LK, wind conditions will primarily be south-westerly, with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph. However, wind speeds could escalate to between 55 to 65 kmph at times, particularly in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.



In the sea areas from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu, wind speeds may also rise to between 50 to 55 kmph at times.



The state of the sea is expected to be rough at times in the areas extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. The sea off the coast from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu is forecasted to be fairly rough at times. Wave heights may increase to about 2.0 to 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.



Naval and fishing communities are advised to remain vigilant due to these conditions.



Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
