Dhaka: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced on Friday that the BNP government has successfully implemented the majority of its electoral pledges and programmes designated for the first six months in office. The announcement was made at an emergency press conference held at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Rizvi claimed that the government has achieved its targets in most areas, with implementation rates reaching 100 percent in some cases and 90-95 percent in others. He stated, “According to the targets set for six months, more or less all of them have been fulfilled. Some may not have reached 100 percent, but there it is 95 percent or 90 percent. In some areas, it has reached 100 percent.” Rizvi noted that setting up the necessary structures and administrative preparations took some time, but expressed optimism that the government’s programmes would be executed more vigorously in the next six months.
Rizvi also revealed plans to release a detailed written account or booklet that will outline the government’s achievements over the past six months. This document will include detailed statistics on various government programmes, such as the Family Card, Farmer Card, and canal excavation initiatives.
When asked about BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s resignation from his party post after being nominated for the presidency, Rizvi clarified that there was no legal requirement for such a resignation before taking the oath of office. “However, the decision to resign from the party’s secretary general post was taken on ethical grounds,” he explained.
Rizvi began the press conference by highlighting important aspects of former BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s political career, emphasizing her unwavering commitment to independence, sovereignty, and democracy. He noted that Khaleda Zia had endured significant challenges throughout her political life due to her steadfast principles.
The BNP plans to organise prayer programmes at party offices across Dhaka and other parts of the country on Saturday to celebrate Khaleda Zia’s birthday. The central office in Nayapaltan will host a prayer programme at 11 am, followed by another at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office after Asr prayers.
In response to queries about potential organisational changes following a Facebook post by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) president Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, Rizvi stated that he had not received any directives regarding the matter. He assured that any final decisions would be communicated through a press release.
The press conference was attended by BNP Joint Secretary Generals Khairul Kabir Khokon and Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Assistant Office Secretary Md Munir Hossain, BNP National Executive Committee member Abdus Sattar Patwari, among others.
