Dhaka: Summit LNG Terminal has resumed supplying around 550 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to Bangladesh’s national gas grid after a brief disruption caused by rough seas on Thursday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the increased supply is expected to improve gas availability for industries, power generation, and other consumers. This development supports economic activity and reduces pressure on the country’s energy system, as mentioned in a statement from Summit Group.

Summit LNG has expressed its commitment to maintaining safe and reliable operations while maximizing gas delivery within the technical capacity of the terminal and the national transmission system. The company acknowledges that ensuring an adequate and uninterrupted energy supply is vital for Bangladesh’s industrial growth, employment, and economic development.

The company will continue its collaboration with Petrobangla and the Government of Bangladesh to bolster the country’s energy security and help alleviate gas shortages. The disruption in supply began when the Summit LNG terminal in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar suspended gas supply around 5 pm on August 13, due to rough seas preventing an LNG cargo from connecting to the terminal.

In addition, a fire at Excelerate Energy’s LNG terminal further impacted the situation by cutting its gas supply capacity by half.
