Earthquake of Magnitude 7.7 Strikes Myanmar, Causing Significant Damage


Yangon: An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025, leading to damage and destruction in several parts of the country, including Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw. The earthquake resulted in injuries, loss of lives, and significant damage to property and infrastructure.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Mandalay region, with strong tremors felt at the Sri Lankan Embassy premises in Yangon at around 11:50 a.m. Despite the magnitude and impact of the quake, there have been no reported impacts on the Sri Lankan community residing in Myanmar, including the Embassy staff.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Yangon is actively monitoring the situation. They are maintaining close cooperation and contact with the resident Sri Lankan community to ensure their safety and provide any necessary assistance.
