Kiribathgoda: The Prime Minister participated in the ‘Swarnabhivandana 2026,’ a Sacred Relic Veneration Ceremony, in line with the 2026 Vesak Poya Day. The event was organized by the Sri Sudarshanarama Temple under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the temple, Ven. Makola Mangala Nayaka, who is also the Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Ruhuna and a Senior Lecturer.
According to News.LK, the ceremony took place on the 3rd of May with the participation of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. The Prime Minister expressed her blessings, stating that it was a privilege to participate in such a significant religious event. She highlighted that devotees were given a rare opportunity to venerate sacred relics of the Supreme Buddha and Maha Arahants such as Seewali, Angulimala, Anuruddha, and Mihindu Theros.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of such religious programs in contributing to the spiritual development of society and invoking blessings upon the country. She also expressed her gratitude to the Chief Incumbent Thero for his guidance in organizing the event, as well as to the Dayaka Sabha of the temple and all contributors who dedicated their efforts.
