EU Special Representative for Indo-Pacific Engages in Strategic Discussions with Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister


Colombo: Maria Castillo Fernandez, the European Union Special Representative for the Indo-Pacific at the European External Action Service, engaged in significant discussions with Deputy Foreign Minister Arun Hemachandra during her official visit to Sri Lanka today (09).



According to News.LK, the meeting centered on Sri Lanka’s strategic importance in the Indo-Pacific region, with a strong emphasis on maritime security and global connectivity. The talks also explored trade dynamics and energy security, highlighting opportunities for regional cooperation and EU investment in renewable and green energy projects. Furthermore, the discussions touched upon Sri Lanka’s commitment to governance, human rights, and legal reforms associated with the GSP+ programme.



Carmen Moreno, along with senior officials from both parties, was also present at the meeting, contributing to the dialogue aimed at strengthening ties between the EU and Sri Lanka.
