Democratisation of Economy Vital for Political Democracy Success: Khosru

Dhaka: Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized the crucial role of economic democratization in ensuring the success of political democracy. Speaking at the ‘July Mass Uprising Commemoration Ceremony 2026’ at BUET’s Central Auditorium, Khosru highlighted the interdependence of economic and political systems in achieving true democracy.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Khosru articulated that merely having political democracy is insufficient without an inclusive economic framework. He underscored the necessity for every Bangladeshi citizen to have the opportunity to engage in the country’s economic activities, ensuring equitable distribution of economic benefits.

Khosru critiqued the previous governance under Sheikh Hasina, accusing it of undermining citizens’ rights and compromising national sovereignty. He emphasized that maintaining power should not come at the expense of national interests, echoing the Prime Minister’s mantra, “Bangladesh first.”

State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, also addressed the gathering, stressing that the July Uprising belongs to the people rather than any individual or political group. He cautioned against exploiting the uprising for political gains, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fulfilling the public’s aspirations from the uprising, which he described as the culmination of 17 years of struggle.

The event was attended by BUET’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Eqramul Hoque, Pro Vice Chancellor Mohammad Shariful Islam, and families of the July martyrs, among others.
