Government Pledges Equal Freedom for All Citizens, Says PM

Colombo: Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that freedom is accessible to all citizens, not just a select few, during the inauguration of a new development project.

According to News.LK, the Prime Minister highlighted this objective while opening the multi-purpose development project linked to the Angunakolapelessa Tank. This initiative, part of the ‘Pohosath Gamak’ programme under the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, aims to provide equal opportunities for citizens to enjoy freedom.

The project, which includes a boating facility and a café on the Angunakolapelessa Leisure Island, was made possible through the voluntary support of the community over a period exceeding 700 days. The Ministry, along with the Angunakolapelessa Pradeshiya Sabha, divisional councils, public safety committees, youth societies, and trade associations, completed the project in a significantly short time.

Dr. Amarasuriya underscored the
importance of collective efforts in national development, stating that such initiatives demonstrate the potential for achievement when communities unite for a common goal. The Prime Minister called for the collaboration of intellectuals, religious leaders, youth, entrepreneurs, and the public to build a resilient nation.

The event saw attendance from members of the Maha Sangha, Minister of Rural Development Upali Pannilage, other government officials, and local residents, marking a significant step towards expanding freedom and cultural life for all citizens.
