Dhaka: A man was hacked to death by his elder brother in Gowainghat upazila on Saturday noon, shortly after filing a rape complaint against his nephew. The deceased, identified as Kalim Ullah, 55, was the son of the late Tuti Mia from Lafnaut Dighirpar village in Alirgaon Union.
According to United News of Bangladesh, locals reported that a daughter of Kalim Ullah was allegedly raped by Zuber Ahmed, 18, who is the son of his brother Sayfullah. The incident became public knowledge last Monday. Attempts at local mediation failed, prompting the victim and her father to file a written rape complaint at Gowainghat Police Station on Saturday.
After the complaint was lodged, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Gowainghat Police Station dispatched a team to arrest Zuber Ahmed. Upon arrival, the police discovered that Zuber was working in the fields in the haor. Kalim Ullah, along with the police, proceeded towards the haor.
During this time, Sayfullah allegedly attacked Kalim Ullah from behind with a sharp weapon, leavi
ng him critically injured. Kalim Ullah was subsequently taken to Gowainghat Upazila Health Complex, where attending doctors declared him dead.
Omar Faruq Morol, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Gowainghat Police Station, stated that the body had been transported to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Sayfullah’s other son, Amir Uddin, 26, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the incident. Authorities are actively working to apprehend the other accused individuals involved in the case.
