Welisara: The newly established Respiratory Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Hospital Welisara for Respiratory Diseases was declared open today with the participation of Dr. (Mrs.) Ruvini Rasika Perera, President of the Ministry of Defence Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU), as a guest. Prof. Chrishantha Abeysena, the Minister of Science and Technology, was the Chief Guest of the event.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the project marks a significant milestone in strengthening the country’s respiratory healthcare infrastructure. The facility, which was previously utilized as a general ward, has been successfully converted into a fully equipped Respiratory Medical ICU to meet the increasing demand for specialized critical care services.
The renovation was carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force under the guidance of the Ministry of Defence Seva Vanitha Unit, demonstrating the Armed Forces’ continued commitment to supporting national healthcare development and enhancing public welfare. Senio
