Special Transport Plan for New Year Travel

Colombo: The National Transport Commission (NTC) has announced a special integrated transport plan for passengers traveling to their hometowns for the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year.

According to News.LK, the plan is implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and will be in effect from April 8 to 20. This initiative is coordinated with the Railway Department and the NTC, and includes the operation of approximately 800 additional daily bus services under inter-provincial private bus services.

Cities such as Matara, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Hatton, Monaragala, Embilipitiya, Welimada, and Galle have been identified as key destinations due to high passenger demand during the festive season. In response, the Railway Department will deploy special train services in addition to the regular trains operating from Colombo Fort.

It is estimated that nearly 1.5 million passengers will use bus and railway stations in Colombo and surrounding areas during this period. To ensure passenger convenience, sanitation facilities, security arrangements, and first aid services have been provided, with additional officers deployed for special duties.
