Vice President of India Engages in Bilateral Talks with Sri Lankan President


Colombo: A bilateral discussion between Indian Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, who is on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka, and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was held this morning at the Presidential Secretariat.

According to News.LK, the Indian Vice-President was warmly received by President Dissanayake, who congratulated him on his appointment as Vice-President of India. Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to him during his first official visit to Sri Lanka.

The discussions focused on strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between India and Sri Lanka. The Indian Vice-President emphasized the intent to enhance cooperation in various fields such as economy, education, health, tourism, investment, and trade, with a particular focus on energy security and port development. Comprehensive discussions also covered housing projects in Sri Lanka supported by the Indian government and initiatives under a USD 450 million package for area
s affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

President Dissanayake highlighted the expanded cooperation across economic, social, and cultural sectors following recent high-level visits between the two countries. He expressed confidence in further strengthening bilateral ties and appreciated India’s assistance in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah, as well as support in addressing the energy crisis triggered by the Middle East conflict.

Sri Lanka expressed interest in collaborating with India in technology, human resource development, and public sector digitalisation. Fisheries-related issues were also discussed, with both sides agreeing on the need for a sustainable solution.

The meeting was attended by a delegation from India, including Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, and other officials. The Sri Lankan side was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath, among others.
